Wooden Shoe Books pirate quote benefit shirt

Pirate Shirt!

This is the first in a series of benefit shirts for the store, designed by long-time Shoe staffer Albo Jeavons. The series is called The Anarchist Spirit, and what better way to start it off than with: Pirates!
They vilify us, the scoundrels do, when there is only this difference; they rob the poor under the cover of law, forsooth, and we plunder the rich under the protection of our own courage"

Samuel Bellamy - Pirate - late 16' to early 1700s.

Wooden Shoe Books Lucy Parsons quote benefit shirt

Lucy Parsons Shirt!

This is the second in The Anarchist Spirit series.
Lucy Parsons (c. 1853 – 1942) was one of the great firebrand radicals of her time, fighting tirelessly for freedom throughout her long life. What did she have to say about anarchism? "Anarchism has but one infallible, unchangeable motto, 'Freedom.' Freedom to discover any truth, freedom to develop, to live naturally and fully."
Go, Lucy!

Wooden Shoe Books Eugene Debs quote benefit shirt

Debs quote Shirt!

The third Anarchist Spirit shirt, this one featuring one of our favorite quotes, from Eugene V. Debs (1855 – 1926) a labor organizer and agitator and a founding members of the Industrial Workers of the World.
He was also - here's the not-so-anarchist part - five times the candidate of the Socialist Party of America for President of the United States, but just read this quote and you'll see that he had some of that anarchist spirit:
"While there is a lower class, I am in it, and while there is a criminal element, I am of it, and while there is a soul in prison, I am not free."
